Fun, flirty and feminine is the vibe when it comes to Oaks Day, and that’s something we can seriously get behind. Ladies Oaks Day 2021 might look a little different (again!) this year (it’s anyone’s guess if it’ll be spectator-free or not!), but it’s still an excuse to get dressed up. Need some inspo to help get your outfit sorted for an at-home celebration? Follow our step-by-step guide for race attire at Oaks Day now.
Oaks Day 2022
We are galloping towards our favourite day of the year here at Olga Berg. A day when dressing up extravagantly is called for and all eyes are on the ladies. Thursday November 4 2021 will see another beautiful Oaks day at Flemington Race Day. The theme first began in 1962 as a way to encourage more women to attend and continues to be a very popular race event with more than 70,000 people generally in attendance. While it’s still not clear if 2021 Oaks Day will remain spectator-free or allow for small numbers, one thing is for sure- the race will go on! With that in mind, we see no reason to not get dressed up (it’s been a long time since we had an excuse to!) and celebrate from home.
Oaks Day Colours
So first things first, there’s no official colour scheme when it comes to Oaks Day. However, there is certainly an unofficial guide on what to wear for ladies day race attire. Oaks Day is all about florals, dainty lace, bright colours and lots of pink! It’s the perfect time to bring out your girly side (if you have one) and let it shine! The official flower for the race day event is a rose, which leaves lots of room to work that into your outfit.
What to wear to Oaks Day in 2022
Fashions on the field are in full swing on ladies day, so if you’re celebrating at home, why not organise a virtual competition with friends? Regardless of whether we’ll be there in person or not, you can bet that the team at Olga Berg will be popping the champagne and pulling out our fascinators to watch some racing in our living rooms. Here’s our top tips on what to wear this year!
1. Floral and floaty dress
It’s the perfect time to wear the girliest dress you can think of. Something dainty and whimsical, floaty and floral. We like a soft blush shade, a creamy white, or a delicate pastel yellow. Better yet, a dress adorned with graphical roses to really get into the theme of the day like Robyn Lawley did a few years back!
2. High and strappy shoes
Generally race day shoes are more about comfort given you’re outdoors and will be on your feet all day. It’s the perfect moment to whip out the heeled sandal, or wedges. However, if you’re going to be celebrating live from the living room this year then this allows for a lot more fun to be had when it comes to your footwear! Go high and strappy with a pair of tiny stilettos. It’s the ultimate moment to pull out beautiful heels with no fear of how your feet will fare afterwards!
You can’t celebrate race day without a fascinator in tow! With the rose the official flower for Oaks Day, why not carry this theme through to your millinery? Whether you want something subtle or big and bold, we have options to suit every taste. Our Ariel Lace Headband in red will go perfectly with a soft pink dress. Featuring guipure lace roses, Ariel is feminine and sultry and will add some drama to your outfit.
Prefer something a little bolder with a bit more height? Opt for our Duchess Velvet and Rose headband. The duchess will work as the centrepiece for your race day look with her big beautiful velvet roses. She’s pretty yet will impart a bold and confident edge to your outfit at the same time.
Go all out and complete your outfit with a cute clutch bag. We love the idea of something a little whimsical to fit the overall theme of your outfit and nothing too OTT since you’ll already be rocking an eyes on me fascinator and a floaty dress. Our Amalia Woven Clutch is perfect for Oaks Day, and will also be your go-to accessory for the summer season of events this year. Made from white woven straw, she’s ideal for daytime events like the races, and summer picnics.
If you want something a little more embellished, try our Beth Clutch. Decked out in lace, crystals and beads she’s definitely a little more attention seeking but doesn’t push the line into OTT territory. With her crocheted flowers, she’s a beauty fit for ladies day!
